The Reds and the Blues
Another Civil War in the works?
An article posted to The Economist discusses the increasing polarization of the country based on "social and cultural issues" and how this polarization is coalescing along state boundaries. Of course the wealthy folks have the biggest say in forming state (and national) policies, using their ownership of both politicians and the main-stream media to easily sway the electorate to their way of thinking.
Here's an interesting approach to perhaps heading off Civil War:
ingrain the economic and social freedoms beneficial to the middle-class into a new Constitution
eliminate the underlying economic control of the uber-rich
take the decision-making out of the hands of corruptible politicians and put it into the hands of industry experts in accordance with the Constitution
apply freedoms and policies uniformly across the entire country
minimize or eliminate the involvement of state government in the welfare of US citizens; state boundaries are not absolute political or economic boundaries and simply serve to remove a large percentage of the population from having a voice
Help us write a new Constitution and perhaps fend off catastrophe!
