Today's United States: Debt-Driven Happiness

It's said that "money makes the world go 'round", and that's especially true in the US. Marketing departments and credit card companies have fostered an attitude of debt-driven consumerism embodied by our national slogan "he who dies with the most toys wins". We're told by Wall Street to invest in stocks and by banks to invest in houses. Money can buy happiness, right? Then why are Americans increasingly frustrated and angry? Maybe it's because our money is being stolen from us every day!

Why is the middle class disappearing?

Wages have started increasing but haven't nearly kept up with inflation. The average college debt is over $30,000. Housing prices have soared along with mortgage interest rates, and rents are increasing just as fast. Yet an immense amount of money has been created in the last five years while the stock market boomed. Where did all that wealth end up? It turns out that the super-rich have gotten super-richer while the other 99.9% have mostly gotten frustrated.

Shouldn't our government be protecting us from this economic abuse?

Don't hold your breath. Our Constitution was written by wealthy, educated, white male landowners to further their own interests. The bankers took over our entire economic system over a century ago. Politicians in both parties do the bidding of their wealthy donors, catering to their desires to minimize corporate taxes and eliminate oversight. The justice system ignores or rewards rampant white-collar crime. You and I have absolutely no control over our economic futures.

Is there anything we can do to take back our lives?

Probably not. Our economic system was designed by the bankers to keep us in debt to the banks. It is overseen by by a small group of multi-billionaires who use their Wall Street casino (we gamble, they're the house) and their political minions (doesn't matter which party you vote for) to maintain the status quo. We truly live in a modern-day slave system. The only hope we have is that when their psychopathic greed causes the system to implode (again), the rest of us will not allow our tax money to be used to bail them out (again)! Let's have a plan in place before it happens!

Let's starts by defining our basic middle-class values.

Sure, our politicians tell us that we should be concerned with what goes on in our neighbor's bedrooms and to blame foreigners for all the bad stuff in our lives. Just a distraction while the vultures steal our future! We believe that our wellbeing is based on knowing that our basic needs are met: quality healthcare, abundant food, inexpensive housing, top-notch education, a pristine and renewable environment, unlimited energy, and a retirement free from economic worry. We will never have these things under our current corrupt, greed-driven economic system.

The US is the richest country in the world. Why haven't we been able to fulfill our basic values?

We have the technological know-how and the resources, so why don't we have the best healthcare, education, and everything else we want? It's because the decision-making has been taken over by the know-nothings and the greedy. And they want to keep us under-educated and over-medicated so we don't figure it all out! It's time to let those with the know-how and the desire for a better life for everyone lead us into a new age when the current system implodes.

Let's define a framework for a government that is truly responsible to the rest of us, not to the wealthy.

Our current Constitution has been interpreted over the years by our politicians and judges to favor large corporations over small business, to favor the needs of the wealthy over the needs of the middle class, to favor competition over cooperation, to favor fear over friendship. None of this was the intent of the founding fathers! Thomas Jefferson felt that the Constitution should be rewritten every nineteen years to keep up with the needs and desires of future generations, and it's time to prove him right. Let's rewrite the US Constitution in our favor.

Follow along as your hopes for a better life are stolen from you every day!
