Why Competition?

Many studies have shown that a cooperative approach to problem solving is probably a better alternative to a competitive approach. Yet we've been raised in a society where capitalism teaches us that competition is the only way to go, even (especially!) in those mutually beneficial areas that most need a cooperative approach - housing, healthcare, education, energy and food production, transportation.

Some examples:

• not enough profit in building new nuclear plant

• cheating to increase profit in the food we eat

• why we don't have mass transportation
